Concrete Footings – The Good, The Bad, & the Ugly…

A few years ago on a site we employed a very well know post hole service to drill & set our holes. On this particular day, they chose not to use much ink the way of concrete in their mix, and away they went. 5 Days later when we were ready to build, this is what we found – footings that moved when kicked, i could scratch them with my bare hands, and hammer in a 12″ spike with a hammer no problem. After 5 days, concrete should reach 75% hardness, and bear in mind these were footings were poured in Late May… Well i will point you to the link below to see a few videos of us removing these footings, and how easy it was to do so. Needless to say, in order to avoid any issues we have now reverted to having our concrete spec’d and delivered to us by Toronto RediMix. 32MPA all the way!!!
