Handrail Options – There are way more then you think…

Todays Deck is a lot more to the average homeowner then it was back in the day. Many people’s deck’s are not only an extension of the house itself, but quite often they are extensions of the Homeowner’s themselves or the yards they are in.

Although most people don’t tend to give a lot of thought to the handrail, it is an area that has evolved quite significantly over the past few decades. We used to have only one option – wood (Cedar, PT, Painted Pine etc.). Nowadays, we still have wood, but the options have increased tenfold. We have multiple types of Composite and plastic handrail, Aluminum. Stainless Steel, Wrought Iron, and Glass pickets and Panels just to name a few common options today.

A lot of these newer systems can be combined with each other – for instance you can get glass with aluminum, glass with Composite etc. Each system has its own set of benefits and disadvantages, and it usually boils down to What you want/need to accomplish in the backyard, overall design and aesthetic considerations, and lastly but certainly not least – budget.
